Wine Tasting to Benefit Museum

Discover new wines and local history at a fundraising event for the Vermilion History Museum. “Wines from Around the World” will be featured at a wine tasting to be held on

Saturday, November 10th from 7 pm to 9 pm in the Museum

Five red and five white wines will be presented from countries including Argentina, Australia, Spain, Italy, France, South Africa and New Zealand. A non-alcoholic beverage will be available. Poppin Around of Vermilion will be offering tastings of their gourmet popcorn. A raffle for wine and restaurant gift certificates will also be held. If you have not visited the museum, this is your chance to enjoy a stroll back in time when newspapers were published by handset printing presses. As you walk in the front door you will see the office where Pearl Roscoe conducted his newspaper business. The next room houses two linotypes (c. 1915) and four letter presses: Stonemetz 2 Revolution Newspaper Press (c. 1919), Kelly Press (c. 1917), Chandler and Price 8″ x 12″ Gordon Jobber Press (c. 1900), Heidelberg Windmill Press (c. 1954). Original newspapers, books, posters and more printed by the Vermilion News are displayed throughout the building. The second floor of the museum was used by the Roscoe & Tarrant families as an apartment. Today it is a blend of family living from 1905 to 1964 with numerous displays of Vermilion history. Local historian, Rich Tarrant, president and curator of the museum, has recently printed and matted photos created from Pearl Roscoe’s glass negatives from 1900 to the 1940s. Your contribution supports the museum’s efforts to preserve Vermilion’s rich history.

Tickets are $25.00 each and may be purchased in advance or at the door. The museum is located at 727 Grand Street, Vermilion.
